Descripción - Críticas 'The elegance of configuration space is well known, especially in path planning problems. Amazingly, configuration space is also an effective technique for the analysis and design of kinematic mechanisms. It was Sacks and Joskowicz who developed the technique, and their book is essential for anyone interested in either the methods or the applications.'--Matthew T. Mason, Director, Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University Reseña del editor A novel algorithmic approach to mechanism design based on a geometric representation of kinematic function called configuration space partitions. This book presents the configuration space method for computer-aided design of mechanisms with changing part contacts. Configuration space is a complete and compact geometric representation of part motions and part interactions that supports the core mechanism design tasks of analysis, synthesis, and tolerancing. It is the first general algorithmic treatment of the kinematics of higher pairs with changing contacts. It will help designers detect and correct design flaws and unexpected kinematic behaviors, as demonstrated in the book's four case studies taken from industry. After presenting the configuration space framework and algorithms for mechanism kinematics, the authors describe algorithms for kinematic analysis, tolerancing, and synthesis based on configuration spaces. The case studies follow, illustrating the application of the configuration space method to the analysis and design of automotive, micro-mechanical, and optical mechanisms. Appendixes offer a catalog of higher-pair mechanisms and a description of HIPAIR, an open source C++ mechanical design system that implements some of the configuration space methods described in the book, including configuration space visualization and kinematic simulation. HIPAIR comes with an interactive graphical user interface and many sample mechanism input files. The Configuration Space Method for Kinematic Design of Mechanisms will be a valuable resource for students, researchers, and engineers in mechanical engineering, computer science, and robotics. Biografía del autor Elisha Sacks is Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University. Leo Joskowicz is Professor at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The configuration space method for kinematic tolerance ~ Abstract. We present an overview of our kinematic tolerance analysis algorithm for mechanical systems with parametric part tolerances. The algorithm constructs a variation model for the system, derives worst-case bounds on the variation, and helps designers find unexpected failure modes, such as jamming and blocking.

INTRODUCTION TO KINEMATICS AND MECHANISMS ~ Machine Definition 2 DEFINITIONS • Kinematic chain: It is a linkage of elements and joints that transmit a controlled output motion related to a given input motion. • Mechanism: It is a kinematic chain where one element (or more) are fixed to the reference framework (which can be in motion) • Machine: Group of resistant elements (which usually contain mechanisms) thought to
A State Space Method for Kinematic Optimization of ~ Problems of optimal kinematic synthesis of mechanisms and machines are formulated in a state space setting that allows for treatment of large scale systems with general design objectives and constraints. An iterative kinematic analysis method is presented.

Kinematic Design Principles - GotsToGo ~ Kinematic Design Principles BJ Furman 24SEP97 Introduction Machines and instruments are made up of elements that are suitably arranged and many of which that are movably connected. Two parts that are in contact and move relative to one another are called kinematic “pairs” or can be thought of as being kinematically coupled.

Introduction to Mechanisms and Kinematics ~ Introduction to Mechanisms and Kinematics Basic Definitions • Machines are devices used to accomplish work. A mechanism is the heart of a machine. It is the mechanical portion of amachine that has the function of transferring motion and forces from a power source to an output .
Automatic design by configuration space: an automatic ~ This paper reports the exploration and development of an intelligent CAD system called ADCS (Automatic Design by Configuration Space). ADCS is an automatic design system for kinematic devices. While most of the existing work in automatic design synthesis is limited to single-state design problems, ADCS is able to generate design solutions for multiple-state design problems.
What is Kinematics? Kinematics - Design of Mechanisms ~ Kinematics is the study of geometry and motion. Machines as simple as livers, machines such as James Watt’s steam engine and the industrial robots such as PUMA all are composed of mechanisms whether simple, complex or combination of many simple and complex mechanisms. These mechanisms are governed by Kinematics – the study of geometry and motion.
3. ANALYTICAL KINEMATICS ~ In planar mechanisms, kinematic analysis can be performed either analytically or graphically. In this course we first discuss analytical kinematic analysis. Analytical kinematics is based on projecting the vector loop equation(s) of a mechanism onto the axes of a non-moving Cartesian frame. This projection transforms a vector equation into two
