Hardly surprising then that Glasgow was named European Capital of Culture for 1990 and UK City of Architecture in 1999. The buildings and works of monumental architecture in 'Glorious Glasgow' are too long to list here but just a few highlights would include Glasgow cathedral, the necropolis, Provand's Lordship, 'Father of Glasgow architecture' David Hamilton's stupendous Gallery of Modern Art, Hutchesons' Hall, tobacco merchant's house, county buildings, High Court of Justiciary, Trades Hall, Tron steeple, Tolbooth steeple, George Square and the city chambers, several statues by Baron Marochetti including the iconic 'Wellington'(complete with traffic cone), St George's Tron, stock exchange, Royal Faculty of Procurators, the Athenaeum, Rogano's restaurant, Buck's Head building, Gardner's warehouse, the Ca D' Oro, Central station, Theatre Royal, St Vincent Street church, Castle chambers, James Sellars House, Blythswood Square, Spectrum building, Savoy centre, Willow tea rooms, Charing Cross mansions, Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow Film Theatre, Clyde bridges, Briggait, St Andrew's cathedral, Clydeport building, SECC, SSE Hydro, Riverside museum, Mitchell library, Arlington baths, Lobey Dosser statue, Park Circus, Trinity College, Kelvingrove Park, Queen's Rooms, Kelvingrove art galleries, Kelvin hall, University of Glasgow, Hillhead subway, Lansdowne church, St Mary's cathedral, Great Western Terrace, Port Dundas, St George's in the Fields, Alexandra Park, Heavy Horse statue, Provan Hall, the Barras, People's Palace, Doulton fountain, Glasgow Green, Nelson monument, Templeton's carpet factory, St Andrew's Square, Caledonia Road church, Citizen's theatre, Ibrox stadium, Celtic Park, Scotland Street school, Fairfield shipyard, House for an Art Lover, Crookston castle, Pollok House and country park, Burrell collection, Moray Place, double villa, Hampden Park, Holmwood House.
